The Monument

Riverglass is a sculpture honoring the environmental leaders who fought to restore the San Antonio River, including Lila Cockrell, Wayne Hollomon Price, Roberto Anguiano, and the Fay Sinkin Family. Standing nearly 12 feet tall in three stacked cubic forms, the piece is finished in glass-and-resin terrazzo embedded with antique bottles dredged from the riverbed between 2007 and 2009 — remnants of San Antonio's brewing history, when breweries like Lone Star and Pearl used the river as a dumping ground, especially during Prohibition.

The bottles are arranged into scannable QR codes, linking to different facets of the story: the lives and legacies of the honored leaders, the recovery and conservation of the glass itself, and details about the monument and its location.
